INTERMODAL STATION-PARK OF BRAÑAS DO SAR

We propose pedestrian traffic into a lower level avoiding intersections that would be dangerous between road traffic and walking traffic. The pedestrian routes, separated from these rings, optimize the operation of the traffic distribution and bring bicycles and pedestrians closer to the Brañas do Sar park.

With this solution all possible movements in the intersection are solved and we also achieve the continuity of the north sidewalk without pedestrian crossings at the entrance road of the bus station; the traffic light network is reduced, deceleration is favored and dead timeouts are eliminated. In short, user security is improved.

The resolution of road traffic through a roundabout offers greater capacity with respect to other intersection solutions -even with regard to traffic lights- and the control and maintenance costs are lower. Emissions, fuel consumption and noise levels are reduced. It allows the incorporation of new routes and the installation of traffic lights is still possible.

We propose a landscape treatment of slopes that improves the urban quality of the close environment and assumes continuity with the park of Brañas do Sar.

For pedestrian areas and bicycle paths, a solid pavement of soil compacted and stabilized with polymer is proposed, executed with existing land or by contribution. This material maintains the durability of the road as opposed to other solutions such as agglomerate, which is more polluting and could damage the flow of underground water, and it also gets the natural appearance of the land, without the dust problems associated with conventional soil floors, as well as avoiding the lost of the material due to rainwaters. In a large part of the route it is not necessary to provide new aggregates, improving the environmental impact twice, since we achieve a completely ecological path and reduce the CO2 footprint by avoiding transport and fuel consumption.

VEDRA STREET

For Vedra Street we propose aesthetic improvement actions and, due its residential nature, we opt for a mixed transit of vehicles and pedestrians with preference for the latter.

On the other hand, in order to improve the communication of Pontepedriña neighborhood with the new intermodal station, we propose to generate a new pedestrian and cyclist access to the station through the upper part of Vedra Street, preserving the characteristic masonry walls of this street, the old ramp of the station and its door with the original wrought-iron gate. It’s about improving neighborhood communications through its own history.
